This typeface is based on research I did on 'Caravaggio', a caf' in Camberwell, London. It is an Italian/Turkish family owned business, and is themed around the baroque artist. Tenebrism is an artistic style originating in the baroque cultural movement; consisting of dramatic contrasts between light and shadow, using techniques of chiaroscuro, and pioneered by Caravaggio. The art history behind this concept, as well as the history of the business (closing due to the pandemic, and reopening as a result of community encouragement), consistently leads back to light and darkness, hence why my typeface design is both elaborate and offset with shadow.
