Sanctuary is a typeface inspired by Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. I took inspiration from the elements of gothic architecture more specifically gothic pointed arches and romanesque semicircular arches. Catholic Churches are typically known to be quite ornate and extravagant, the typeface is a juxtaposition of that and is quite unornamented. I aimed to show the simplicity and traditional aspect of Catholic Churches through the thin and delicate lines whilst still being able to portray that strong and stable appearance that a church has. I also designed the typeface in hopes of showcasing how I view Catholicism and gothic architecture.
