Lilysoul is a typeface inspired by the gravestones of Nunhead Cemetery. My design is primarily influenced by the marks left by weathering on the stone surfaces. Within a fixed letter structure, I introduced internal cut-outs. These openings are mostly circular, with some slightly sharp edges left intentionally. To me, the weathering of gravestones happens slowly and naturally, resulting in softened, rounded forms. This led me to choose circular shapes, which feel organic, rather than rigid rectangles that suggest deliberate, human-made cutting. I wanted to show how time leaves marks on stone and on emotion. At the same time, I wanted to capture the quiet tension that lives within calmness.
