LATTICE 45

By Ebba Gorecki

My typeface is inspired by the Old Canal Footbridge in Burgess Park, using the bridge's lattice truss as the structural logic behind each letterform. Built from repeated 45-degree diagonals, the design mirrors the footbridge's angle, rhythm, and modular connections. Narrow proportions and sharp terminals reference engineered steel members and the sense of tension held within the frame. The reduced geometric strokes treat the bridge as a functional system rather than decoration, emphasising repetition, joints, and load-bearing clarity. Translating these architectural components into typography, the typeface presents the footbridge as both an industrial trace and a distinctive local landmark.
