'Consumed' was designed with the intention of embodying nature and capturing the natural, tranquil side of Nunhead Cemetery. Seeing the overgrown and reclaimed nature of this site, it was clear to me to make a more personal typeface to reflect the concept of being reclaimed by the earth after death, rather than focusing on the negative, macabre aspect usually related to cemeteries. To achieve this feeling, I made 'Consumed', which is a typeface that consists of using purely natural material from Nunhead Cemetery and creating the shapes of the letters with the branches and plants. After spending hours in the peaceful atmosphere of Nunhead and creating soundscapes, then tracing the edges of the branches with a pencil and recreating the shapes within glyphs, I focused on areas I found most intriguing and next to graves I had done deep research on. I also tried to focus on collecting mostly dead plants to not affect the living plants on the Nunhead grounds.
