‘Alsop’ celebrates the work of architect Will Alsop, and his contribution to the community of Peckham through his efforts to design a library that would bring the area back to life. The font takes inspiration from a striking realisation I had when visiting the library; that many residents utilise the space for digital access, rather than its original purpose of reading. Despite this divergence from the library’s intended purpose, it remains a safe space for the local residents. ””‘Alsop’ joins these two concepts – the digital age we’re living in, and the importance of public spaces like these in our community.
